Christmas 2008 Party Wardrobe
Every year, Fall and Winter fashion collections showcase absolutely gorgeous cocktail dresses, clubbing outfits and formal gowns. This season, the black lace dress is huge, thanks to Prada.
Versace's ready to wear collection this season fetures plenty of blacks as usual, grays, rose nude shades and brights as in canary yellow, ruby, amethyst and garnet.
Calvin Klein went all out futuristic with sharply cut black clothes that appeared seamless. Razor pleated dresses stole the show at the end of the day.
At Donna Karan, earth tones dominated with plenty of browns (from reddish browns, to chocolate to golden browns), khaki, wine and olive. The colors are oh so strong and natural while the fabrics draped the body for a feminine result.
Prada was very big on black lace. Everything was covered in gothic black lace, which sets one of the big trends to wear this Christmas.
So how does the catwalk translate to the club scene, dinner parties and formal wear?
If you expect to go to quite a few parties from Thanksgiving to Christmas to the new year, you can start with a few basics to add on to your existing classics and then, pile on the accessories.
For starters, get
- A lace dress - Pick one in your color. It can be black or any color that makes you look your very best. That can be your version of the little black dress for any party this season.
- A formal gown - Keep at least one gown on hand for the formal invites
- A thin brown leather belt or sash you can tie around your waist (empire waist or real waist, whichever suits you best)
- A black turtleneck top - this is a classic you can wear just like Audrey Hepburn in her prime
- A new pair of jeans or trousers that flatters you perfectly
- A sexy top in a bright color - canary, red, wine, amethyst, sapphire, whichever suits you best.
- A white blouse with a large bow around the collar - that is this season's white blouse. You could always use one of your existing white blouses and add on a scarve around the collar and button it right up to the top.
- A knee length coat, preferably a very pale pastel - to take you through winter
- Black stockings - to go with your dresses
- A calf length skirt in a sheer fabric that drapes well
